The aim of language teaching is to enable communication. Communication is built on the four skills of language. One of these four basic skills is writing skill. The development of writing skill is acquired later compared to other skills. Because writing skill requires technical skills for writing as well as cognitive, affective and kinesthetic characteristics. One of these requirements is text type awareness. It is especially important for individuals who learn Turkish to receive academic education to recognise informative text types and to produce texts in these types. However, when the literature is analysed, it is seen that students are insufficient in genre-based writing. This deficiency is a situation encountered in foreign language learning as well as in mother tongue learning. It is believed that this research, which was studied with an experimental model, will contribute to the field in terms of providing a suggestion for improving writing skills in the process of teaching Turkish language. The aim of this study is to reveal the effect of text-type based writing instruction on the success of advanced learners of Turkish as a foreign language in writing informative texts. The study group of the research consists of C1 level 32 students who learn Turkish in the spring term of 2024 academic year in Turkish Language Teaching Application and Research Centre at University of Bursa Uludag. The method of the research was designed according to the quasi-experimental method with pre-test-post-test experiment and control group from quantitative designs. Within the scope of the research, students were given text type-based training in a 4-week period. Informative text type was taken as the text type. The writing papers obtained from the students were evaluated and statistically analysed using the ‘Informative Text Writing Achievement Rating Scale’ (Dölek & Hamzadayı, 2022). The findings of the study revealed that there was a significant difference in terms of experimental group in which text type-based writing training was given. Accordingly, it was determined that text-type based writing instruction had a positive effect on the informative text writing achievement of C1 level students who learn Turkish as a foreign language.
